A small farmhouse

This farmhouse in northern France might have been inhabited from the 18th century to the 20th, and could have been home to many generations of a farming family. But it would soon, as new mechanisation brought advances in capacity, have ceased to be sustainable.

In this image, an electric line connects the ancient dwelling to the outside world, but that’s the only modern feature I can see.

After a desperate escape from the ravages of war, now far behind the front lines, such a farmhouse as this, looking a bit neglected but still maintained as best someone could manage, would have seemed a likely refuge.
