The town of Albert

In the first weeks of July, 1916, the town of Albert, in the region of the Somme, was heavily bombed and destroyed.

When the Vingt-Deuxiéme Battalion, from Canada, arrive at this ruined town, the location of the Allied Headquarters, it must have seemed to the young soldiers that they had come to the end of the world.

But still there were people alive in and around the ruins, and everyone was struggling to survive.
