City University, Islington

The first Journalism degree course in the UK was offered at City University during the 1970s. The course was particularly feasible because of the proximity of City University to Fleet Street, the heart of newsprint in the UK.

The Tait Building, built in 1966, coincided with the establishment of City University, which grew out of the Northampton Institute. City University boasted a remarkably diverse student community, and a young French journalism student, so near to the Fleet Street journalists, should have relished their experience in this cosmopolitan ambience.
