The Joint Study Programme

Launched by the European Commission in the school year 1976/1977, the JSP provided grants for university students from one European country to spend time studying in another member country’s university.

The UK joined the European Communities on the 1st of January, 1973, as confirmed by a UK referendum in 1975.

These interchanges of students across borders created opportunities across the whole of Europe, and student life would have been immeasurably enriched as a consequence.
