Although this ambulance was registered (‘K’) in ’71/’72, it was probably still in service less than a decade later, and would have been the sort of emergency vehicle to attend to anyone involved in a motoring accident or collision.
Accident and Emergency departments, like the one at Westminster Hospital, would have been the first point of call, if required by the ambulance team. Westminster Hospital is 3.4 miles along the Fulham Road from Leicester Square, but University College Hospital is only 1.5 miles away via Shaftesbury Avenue at the end of Gower Street.
