A bath you’ve got to clean before you run your own

When the bathtub is shared among several lonely residents of a typical bedsit conversion (that is, perhaps ten bedsits carved out of a four story terrace house), you can be pretty sure that it’s as grimy as it comes.

At the very least, you’d want to scrub the dirty, soapy ring off from around the inside before you dared to run a bath for yourself.

But you’d be lucky to get any hot water, in many circumstances, unless you happened to be first up in the house.
