Hard to believe that it’s been more than a decade since Habitat closed its doors at the iconic Tottenham Court Road store. For fifty years, Habitat was the go-to place for contemporary, stylish, household furnishings, but IKEA’s different sales strategy proved to be too much of a competition and Habitat’s commercial reach languished in the shadow of the new kid on the block.
But back in the day, in the ’70s and ’80s, Sir Terence Conran brought accessible European-centric housewares to the British public, at affordable prices. The shop on Tottenham Court was the second, after the founding store in Chelsea, but it became the flagship of the brand.
So Habitat would have been an ideal place for Katarin to choose some good quality sheets. Like most stores, Habitat closed each day for business at 5pm, except for Thursdays when later shopping hours catered for working people.
