The actors studio

I’ve always been amazed at the extraordinary lengths young actors go to, in an attempt to learn their craft. At the same time, I know that teaching styles have changed dramatically over the past fifty years.

No doubt there were some fierce acting coaches in the past (I’m thinking of that terrible jazz music teacher who bullied the aspiring young drummer in the film Whiplash.)

No doubt there are some aspiring students who could survive such an onslaught on their sensibilities, though most would likely turn into cringing wreckages.

How will Katarin cope with such a tyrant? I hope, as an author trying to convey a sense of the character they’re creating, that her response to this sort of challenging situation will let her true self shine through the words.
