The historic pub theatre of The King’s Head on Upper Street in Islington, near the Angel, was very active in the 1970s, since its founding in 1970. It was the first theatre pub in the UK since Shakespearean times.
A very small venue, the theatre typically held an audience of about 100, so that performances were intimate, and intensely engaging.
The King’s Head helped launched the careers of some of the biggest British actors including Hugh Grant, Maureen Lipman, Richard E. Grant, and Joanna Lumley.
