Doner Kebab

The greasiest, but cheapest, fast food available in London in the late ’70s was always the doner kebab with chips. I’d never seen this sort of food prepared, or served, before I arrived in London.

Not unlike a Philadelphia cheese steak (without the cheese) in a flatbread roll, the greasy meat would tend to make your stomach roil. The chips probably helped to soak up the fat, however.
