Writers have a constant dilemna: to listen to the creative voice that urges them onward, or to listen to the editor who tells them that their effort is not worthy. It’s a truism of creative writing groups that the devil editor, typically on one’s left shoulder, is something that must be ignored in favour of the angel on their right whose promptings must be considered.
Else, how would anything ever get written? My own, personal take, is to write, write, write, and let the flow take you. Only after writing, does the devilish editing kick in, and that, seriously, is hard work. Intriguingly, that editing can reveal great insights too, so it can’t be ignored.
But in the first flow of a manuscript, let the angel guide your mind!
